PRIVATE LESSONS:

Both Chris and Mary have taught private lessons for over three decades.  Spanning a wide variety of styles, beginning to advanced players learn technical skills, music theory, note-reading, playing “by ear” and improvisational techniques on Violin, Viola, Mandolin, Ukulele, Lapsteel, Guitar, Cello, Bass.  If you’d like more information and live in the Madison, WI area or can commute, contact us at info@gainesandwagoner.com and put “Lessons” in the subject field.  Or check our performance calendar to see when we’re coming to your town!  Private or group lessons can be set up at area schools, libraries, studios, music stores, etc. in conjunction with our performance dates.

MASTERS OF STRING JAZZ

Lecture – Performance – Clinic

DESCRIPTION:  Using recorded samples, both analog (vinyl) and digital, and live performance, husband/wife duo, Gaines and Wagoner, will take the audience on a musical journey plotting the course of stringed instruments from their early jug-band country-blues roots through swing, bebop, post-bop, straight-ahead and Free Jazz to current fusions of jazz, rock and world musics.  Q&A with the audience is encouraged following the presentation.  A clinic for string players focusing on improvisational concepts and stylistic elements and techniques is also available either before or after the Masters of String Jazz presentation or as a stand-alone workshop.  Self-contained—minimal setup required.
